You Said You Would Do It!

You Said You’d Do It!

Follow through. Everyone has trouble with this at one time or another, some of us more often than others. When you fail to follow through on something that you promised, whether to yourself or others, you are actually hurting yourself. Every time you commit to something and don’t do it, it effects your opinion of yourself negatively, and your subconscious remembers everything you say. It’s important to always follow through or if it isn’t possible, to get permission from the other party, even if it’s yourself, to excuse yourself from the commitment. Here’s some ideas on how to make sure your follow through is a regular event.

1. Clarify your goals.
What is it that you want? What end result are you striving for? Why? What will this goal provide to you? The why is what will motivate you. Write it down and read your goals every day, or create a vision board to remind you of what you want and why. It’s easy to get caught up in the outside world and let your personal commitments fall out of sight.

2. Create a written plan of action.
What do you need to do to reach your goals today, tomorrow, next week, next month, over the next six months, over the next year? Planning ahead is crucial for success. Review the plan regularly to remind you of what needs to be done. Tweek your plan when necessary. If something isn’t working, find new creative ways to move forward.

3. Don’t give up.
The Wright brothers made many attempts at creating an airplane that would fly before they were successful. But they didn’t “crash and burn”. They dusted themselves off and got back to work. You can too.

4. Be careful what you commit to.
Many people say they have trouble saying no. If you are one of those people, learn to have trouble blurting out yes. Instead, ask if you can have time to think about it. Explain that you need to look at your calendar to determine if it is “do-able”. Then really consider all your current obligations and your desire to be part of this commitment. Is this new commitment going to steer you away from your own goals? If you decide that this obligation would negatively affect you and your goals, be honest with the other person. They’d rather know ahead of time that you can’t fulfill their needs than have you commit to something you might not finish.

5. Determine what your distracters are and remove them.
Are you tempted to play another game of Solitaire on your computer, or whatever your game of choice is? Remove that game from your computer so you can’t be tempted. Are you an email junkie, constantly checking your email or sending email to others? Decide on two or three times a day when you allow yourself to login and look at your email. Allow only a certain amount of time for each visit. Close your email down after each visit so you are not tempted by it.

6. Visualize your success.
Professional athletes use visualization as a method for achieving their goals. When you wake up in the morning and before you go to sleep at night, close your eyes and visualize reaching your goal. What would that success feel like? Experience it in your body as if you have it already, it’s real.

7. Celebrate successes, no matter how small.
Your celebration doesn’t have to be extravagant. It can be giving yourself an extra 10 minutes of visualization that day. That’s a celebration of more time just for you!

8. Need help? Ask for it.
Don’t be the lone ranger. If you find you are overwhelmed, ask for help from a family member, a friend, whoever is willing and able to help. Praying for tranquility, clarity or for the appearance of that helpful person can come in handy at this point too.

9. Get an Accountability Coach.
You knew this one was coming. ;0)
Seriously, a coach might be the critical factor in helping you get through your barriers and obstacles. When interviewing thousands of successful business owners, the one thing that they wish they had when starting out and trying to gain some traction was a coach. On going support is a key to overcoming the obstacles that might otherwise derail you from achieving your dreams. As America’s Accountability Coach™ I am committed to providing the kind of support and input that makes sense and dollars!
Too many people today take their dreams lightly, and are afraid to put a sense of urgency and commitment to them. We pride ourselves on bringing out the best in our clients, and therefore extracting a level of success that they have never experienced.

Don’t Forget to Breathe

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Well, if you have bad breath, you might want to consult with your doctor or invest in some strong mouthwash.  I’m actually more concerned with how you breathe.  Why am I, a life and business coach, concerned with the way you breathe?  I believe if you improve the way you breathe, you will find an improved way of life, of being, of thinking.  Over time, with practice, you might find yourself more focused with the ability for clearer thinking, more energetic, and more peaceful.  If you think about it, oxygen is the most important nutrient for all breathing animals.  We can only live a few minutes without it, but we can live without food or water for days.  Studies have shown that the way you breathe is critical to your longevity, yet, when you go to the doctor’s office for your physical, your doctor most likely doesn’t talk to you about your breathing habits.

When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady.  But when the breath is calmed the mind

too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life.  Therefore, one should learn to control the breath.

~Svatmarama, Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Oxygen is extremely important to the brain’s functionality, which in turn, affects all of your vital organs.  If you are a shallow breather, you are therefore providing poor oxygen supply to all parts of your body.  As the shallow breather ages, the body suffers in many ways because it is starved of the oxygen it needs.  Lack of oxygen can cause poor eyesight, a decline in hearing, cancer, strokes and heart disease.   When cells are deprived of oxygen, cancer occurs.  When the heart is deprived of oxygen, a heart attack occurs.  When the brain is deprived of oxygen, a stroke occurs.  A study conducted at Baylor University showed that when monkeys with diseased arteries had oxygen infused into the diseased arteries, the disease was reversed!

For breath is life, and if you breathe well you will live long on earth.  ~Sanskrit Proverb

So how should one breathe?

Here’s a breathing exercise I recommend doing twice a day in a quiet place.  Suggestion: when you wake up, and before you last meal of the day (be sure your stomach is empty).  Start with 5 repititions per session the first day, 6 the next, and so on until you reach 10 repetitions for each session:

  1. Sit up straight in a chair or cross-legged on the floor.  Make sure your spine is straight, posture is important for the breathe to flow easily.

  1. Inhale deeply through the nose without strain.  As you are breathing in, push your stomach out, then your ribs sideways, and then your collarbone and chest up.  This should be done in a continuous fluid motion.

  1. Relax the collarbone and chest and ribs and the air will begin exhaling automatically.  Push your stomach in slightly when you think all the air is out so that any remaining air will be released.

Breathing is the greatest pleasure in life.  ~Giovanni Papini

Rumor or Fact?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Is the turbulent economic news a series of rumors or facts? That depends who you are and how you are effected. If you are a GM auto industry worker this is a very scary time for you. Here’s a news flash: Get out of that business, it’s a killer and has been for three decades (completely unstable). “But it’s the only work in Michigan, Good: MOVE!!! Sorry, I’m just a realist. The money does not come to you, you have to GO TO THE MONEY! That is a FACT! I know that many may not like the fact, but it is a harsh reality and if you are going to let the recession impact you in a harsh way, then you need a harsh alternative, sorry! But if you are not in the 7% to 10% (on average) affected by unemployment, then it is some form of a rumor only. But yet your life is being impacted by this rumor, so ask yourself RIGHT NOW one question” “What is so?” Three simple words, what is so? Be brutally honest with yourself, and those around you and make a plan, and a plan that will work, not a substitute such as taking a different job in a different sector of the North American Automobile Industry (your just trading headaches, it’s a lousy industryL). So what do you do when business and or careers or changes to those are on the line? That’s tough because money gets intertwined and that pulls emotions in and when emotions are high, intelligence is low! And what you need right now is financial intelligence. I’d suggest you look into two things, first our $1 Trial offer for our Tele-Seminar Series to help people all over the world. Find yourself on my next call, it could help NOW! Thanks…Coach Ray

Lead, Follow or Step Aside

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

There are leaders and followers and both are needed for the world to spin properly. However, some of the leaders aren’t leading. Huh? How can that be? Well, this thing called the recession has people re-trenching, re-treating and re-thinking and all that does in stop the world from spinning, or certainly slows it down. What’s the basis for that you may be asking yourself? It’s simple, CONSUMER CONFIDENCE has been shaken. Shaken by politics, lies, unscrupulous CEO’s, unemployment rising, corporate bailouts, bank crisis and a myriad of other bad news. Some say, passively, “Well|What Can You Do?” in a defeated and submissive way. The heck with that! You can be a real LEADER, a true HERO to people around you. Seriously, your family members, closest friends, coworkers or employees, associates, heck even your enemies deserve a break these days, don’t they? Of course they do. And I’m letting you know right now YOU can either LEAD or cower, YOU can follow (although I wouldn’t) or you can wait for things to get better (on who’s watch??) or YOU can be a DIFFERENCE maker! What’s it gonna be? It’s now or get creamed by an bad statistic; called the recession. Re-Frame that now: Recession = EXPANSION! Why not? If you consumer confidence is low, CHANGE IT, I’m not saying get over your head, I’m saying buy the things you normally would by and you’ll do your part, AND when your circles of influence see that, they’ll be confident too and follow suit. Isn’t that what leaders do, lead the way? Of course, so step up now, Lead your followers NOW because they are relying on you!
