Follow through. Everyone has trouble with this at one time or another, some of us more often than others. When you fail to follow through on something that you promised, whether to yourself or others, you are actually hurting yourself. Every time you commit to something and don’t do it, it effects your opinion of yourself negatively, and your subconscious remembers everything you say. It’s important to always follow through or if it isn’t possible, to get permission from the other party, even if it’s yourself, to excuse yourself from the commitment. Here’s some ideas on how to make sure your follow through is a regular event.

1.	Clarify your goals.
What is it that you want? What end result are you striving for? Why? What will this goal provide to you? The why is what will motivate you. Write it down and read your goals every day, or create a vision board to remind you of what you want and why. It’s easy to get caught up in the outside world and let your personal commitments fall out of sight.

2.	Create a written plan of action.
What do you need to do to reach your goals today, tomorrow, next week, next month, over the next six months, over the next year? Planning ahead is crucial for success. Review the plan regularly to remind you of what needs to be done. Tweek your plan when necessary. If something isn’t working, find new creative ways to move forward.

3.	Don’t give up.
The Wright brothers made many attempts at creating an airplane that would fly before they were successful. But they didn’t “crash and burn”. They dusted themselves off and got back to work. You can too.

4.	Be careful what you commit to.
Many people say they have trouble saying no. If you are one of those people, learn to have trouble blurting out yes. Instead, ask if you can have time to think about it. Explain that you need to look at your calendar to determine if it is “do-able”. Then really consider all your current obligations and your desire to be part of this commitment. Is this new commitment going to steer you away from your own goals? If you decide that this obligation would negatively affect you and your goals, be honest with the other person. They’d rather know ahead of time that you can’t fulfill their needs than have you commit to something you might not finish.

5.	Determine what your distracters are and remove them.
Are you tempted to play another game of Solitaire on your computer, or whatever your game of choice is? Remove that game from your computer so you can’t be tempted. Are you an email junkie, constantly checking your email or sending email to others? Decide on two or three times a day when you allow yourself to login and look at your email. Allow only a certain amount of time for each visit. Close your email down after each visit so you are not tempted by it.

6.	Visualize your success.
Professional athletes use visualization as a method for achieving their goals. When you wake up in the morning and before you go to sleep at night, close your eyes and visualize reaching your goal. What would that success feel like? Experience it in your body as if you have it already, it’s real.

7.	Celebrate successes, no matter how small.
Your celebration doesn’t have to be extravagant. It can be giving yourself an extra 10 minutes of visualization that day. That’s a celebration of more time just for you!

8.	Need help? Ask for it.
Don’t be the lone ranger. If you find you are overwhelmed, ask for help from a family member, a friend, whoever is willing and able to help. Praying for tranquility, clarity or for the appearance of that helpful person can come in handy at this point too.

9.	Get an Accountability Coach.
You knew this one was coming. ;0)
Seriously, a coach might be the critical factor in helping you get through your barriers and obstacles. When interviewing thousands of successful business owners, the one thing that they wish they had when starting out and trying to gain some traction was a coach. On going support is a key to overcoming the obstacles that might otherwise derail you from achieving your dreams. As America’s Accountability Coach™ I am committed to providing the kind of support and input that makes sense and dollars!
Too many people today take their dreams lightly, and are afraid to put a sense of urgency and commitment to them. We pride ourselves on bringing out the best in our clients, and therefore extracting a level of success that they have never experienced.
Give me a call at…. (Ray you can add to this one)

Why am I, a life and business coach, concerned with the way you breathe? I believe if you improve the way you breathe, you will find an improved way of life, of being, of thinking. Over time, with practice, you might find yourself more focused with the ability for clearer thinking, more energetic, and more peaceful. If you think about it, oxygen is the most important nutrient for all breathing animals. We can only live a few minutes without it, but we can live without food or water for days.

Well, if you have bad breath, you might want to consult with your doctor or invest in some strong mouthwash. I’m actually more concerned with how you breathe. Studies have shown that the way you breathe is critical to your longevity, yet, when you go to the doctor’s office for your physical, your doctor most likely doesn’t talk to you about your breathing habits.

When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind

too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath.

~Svatmarama, Hatha Yoga Pradipika

Oxygen is extremely important to the brain’s functionality, which in turn, affects all of your vital organs. If you are a shallow breather, you are therefore providing poor oxygen supply to all parts of your body. As the shallow breather ages, the body suffers in many ways because it is starved of the oxygen it needs. Lack of oxygen can cause poor eyesight, a decline in hearing, cancer, strokes and heart disease. When cells are deprived of oxygen, cancer occurs. When the heart is deprived of oxygen, a heart attack occurs. When the brain is deprived of oxygen, a stroke occurs. A study conducted at Baylor University showed that when monkeys with diseased arteries had oxygen infused into the diseased arteries, the disease was reversed!

For breath is life, and if you breathe well you will live long on earth. ~Sanskrit Proverb

So how should one breathe?

Here’s a breathing exercise I recommend doing twice a day in a quiet place. Suggestion: when you wake up, and before you last meal of the day (be sure your stomach is empty). Start with 5 repititions per session the first day, 6 the next, and so on until you reach 10 repetitions for each session:

Sit up straight in a chair or cross-legged on the floor. Make sure your spine is straight, posture is important for the breathe to flow easily.

Inhale deeply through the nose without strain. As you are breathing in, push your stomach out, then your ribs sideways, and then your collarbone and chest up. This should be done in a continuous fluid motion.

Relax the collarbone and chest and ribs and the air will begin exhaling automatically. Push your stomach in slightly when you think all the air is out so that any remaining air will be released.

Is the turbulent economic news a series of rumors or facts? That depends who you are and how you are effected. If you are a GM auto industry worker this is a very scary time for you. Here’s a news flash: Get out of that business, it’s a killer and has been for three decades (completely unstable). “But it’s the only work in Michigan, Good: MOVE!!! Sorry, I’m just a realist. The money does not come to you, you have to GO TO THE MONEY! That is a FACT! I know that many may not like the fact, but it is a harsh reality and if you are going to let the recession impact you in a harsh way, then you need a harsh alternative, sorry! But if you are not in the 7% to 10% (on average) affected by unemployment, then it is some form of a rumor only. But yet your life is being impacted by this rumor, so ask yourself RIGHT NOW one question” “What is so?” Three simple words, what is so? Be brutally honest with yourself, and those around you and make a plan, and a plan that will work, not a substitute such as taking a different job in a different sector of the North American Automobile Industry (your just trading headaches, it’s a lousy industryL). So what do you do when business and or careers or changes to those are on the line? What's the basis for that you may be asking yourself? It's simple, CONSUMER CONFIDENCE has been shaken.

There’s no better time than the summer to start watching people’s body language. Why is Summer time the best time? Because it’s right around the corner, and since it’s a good idea to learn about body language at some point in your life, you might as well make it a fun summer project. (You thought I was going to give a different answer, didn’t you. Get your mind out of the gutter!) Seriously though, summer time brings many social events with it, and you might find it interesting to practice body language watching on your family and friends at your next cookout. You might learn a few things about them that you didn’t know.

Why is understanding body language an important skill to have? A large percentage of communication is non-verbal, up to 93 percent in fact! Having an understanding of body language can help you when you are negotiating a deal, when engaged in an important discussion with a loved one or a boss, and basically with every interaction you have.

The Eyes Have It!

The saying that “the eyes are the windows to the soul”, is not just a saying. We process approximately 50% of a message from someone else by what that person’s eyes are “saying”. Eye contact, or lack of it, “speaks” volumes. (Be aware that some cultures interpret looking someone in the eye as a sign of disrespect. The following information pertains to western cultures).

When someone looks you in the eyes, but doesn’t stare, they are communicating self-assurance. Maintained eye contact can indicate if a person is trustworthy and sincere. Conversely, when someone doesn’t look you in the eyes they are displaying a lack of confidence. Staring can be interpreted as aggressive behavior. Lowering the eyes indicates shyness or fear or guilt. If someone blinks quickly and often, they are nervous or assessing something. Dilated pupils can indicate that a person is interested in you. Be aware though, there could be physical or drug related reasons for dilated pupils. When someone feels insulted or threatened they will break eye contact. A quick glance sideways demonstrates irritation at something just spoken.

“ARM”ored

Crossed arms can mean many things. It can mean that a person disagrees or is not happy with something being said. They are creating a block between themselves and others. It can indicate that the person is not happy about their body appearance. It can also mean that they have a stain on their shirt that they are embarrassed about. If they cross their arms and place their feet shoulder length or more apart, then they are demonstrating toughness or authority. Arms resting behind the neck or head indicate that the person is open to the discussion, or simply that he/she is a laid back person. Hands on the hips are a sign of impatience or aggression. Don’t be afraid to approach someone with open arms and open palms. They are very willing to communicate with sincerity.

“Hand”y Info

Hands can display a lot about someone. If someone rubs their eye, and you’re sure a bug didn’t just fly in there, they are telling you that they have doubt. Doubt can also be shown by a touch, slight rub to the nose. The nose rub can also indicate rejection or lying. If their hands are playing with their hair, they are insecure. When someone puts their hand to their cheek they are thinking. Watch out for hands clasped behind a person’s back. They are angry or frustrated. Pulling at their ear indicates indecisiveness. If someone touches you, there can be a friendly or an aggressive reason behind it. Think about when the President of the United States gives a speech on television. Careful attention and preparation is given to how he displays his hands during the speech.

Final “Feet”

Your feet tell a lot about what you are thinking/feeling. The wider the feet are positioned from each other, the more powerful that person feels. If a person’s feet are crossed at the ankle while the person is sitting, that person is at ease. Notice legs and feet when you are at a meeting. Many times the knees or feet might be pointed at the “most important” person in the room, or toward the door if that’s where they really want to go. I’m sure you’ve seen people slightly bounce or kick their foot when sitting with legs crossed. This indicates that they are a bit bored or impatient. A person sitting with legs apart displays that the person is open and relaxed. If someone sits with crossed legs that are tense, they are not happy about what is being said. If the legs are relaxed, they are simply sitting in a manner that is comfortable to them.

“Let Me Hear Your Body Talk”

I don’t think Olivia Newton-John was simply talking about body language with her song “Physical”, (I think she had something else on her mind), but I needed to use that line as a subheading to close since that song has been going through my head the entire time I’ve been writing this. Anyway, there is so much more to learn about body language than what I’ve included here. Colleges include the subject in classes, and books have been written about it. Body language is interesting stuff that can be fun to learn when you use it in your own life. So, get out there and watch those bodies around you (just don’t get arrested in the process, try to be discrete… wink, wink).

When it comes to understanding how the Law of Attraction works, it is important to not get caught up in the mechanics. It is far more impactful to just accept that it does work, whether you believe it or not. Not many people go around and question as to whether the light will go on when you flip the switch. Rather, they just accept that electricity will flow and the light will go on. It is not relevant whether you understand how the electrons flow and interact in order to make a light glow. Nor have many people taken the time to try and understand. They just accept that it does.

So, is the Law of Attraction. It is not important that you understand the mechanics of how the law works. Just know that because it is a Law of the Universe, that it works regardless of whether you understand or accept it. Therefore, you have a choice as to what you attract in your life. In life, there is no such thing as a true victim. Victim is a state of mind, or a condition. Nobody is born a victim. It is usually a self-imposed label that rationalizes the results of the choices that they have made.

The victim mentality is simply an excuse for the choices that have created the current reality. If one changes the choices, then the results have to change. The idea of a victim is that the person does not take ownership of their life circumstances. This is an unhealthy and destructive behavior.

To change this, you need to embrace the the reality that all of life is a choice. With each choice, comes a set of circumstances and consequennces. Therefore, if you were able to look at a blueprint that shows the paths of the related choices, you would find that many of your choices would be different.

In the Law of Attraction, you choose your thought pattern, and the universe aligns with the choices’ circumstances. This means that because the law works every time, all the time…it cannot deviate from the expected result. Just like an apple that falls from a tree, the apple cannot decide on the way down that it will alter its reality by choosing not to believe in the gravity. The apple will always fall, the grass will always grow, the electricty will always flow…and the universe will always respond to the thoughts that you project.

Hello everyone. I would like to share a submission that I received recently. There are some very powerful points in it, and I think that it certainly invokes thought, which I encourage greatly here. With her permission, I have posted it here along with my own editorial mixed in. Please enjoy the article, and I look forward to reading your feedback. Yours In Success, Ray Giumentaro, America’s Accountability Coach™

What is Spirituality?

My definition of Spirituality is simply feeling peaceful, joyful and content.

What is Success?

Success can be defined in many ways by each one of us. It is truly an individual definition. But one fact is true for all of us. Quoting Albert Schweitzer, “ Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

If you agree with Albert, then you would feel these things by being happy with whom you are. I think that is true success. When you can be happy with whom you are each day, and you are grateful for what your higher power has blessed you with, then you are more successful than you can imagine. And being tied to the higher power your spirituality is self-evident.

My personal experience is that you cannot be successful without being spiritual. I once looked at these two aspects of my life as separate from each other. At one time, my definition of spirituality was whether I attended church or not. Success to me evolved around my achievements within my career. As I’ve continued along my life journey, I have come to the realization that spirituality and success are actually very intertwined. For me, one cannot exist without the other. If I do not believe I am successful, I do not feel very good about myself, and I will not feel peaceful, joyful or content. When I do feel successful, I know I will enjoy those moments of peace, joy and contentment. But, will these feelings last? For me, they do. I have come to realize that success is a lifestyle. I look at my daily successes, no matter how small, and appreciate them. This multitude of successes talks to my Spirit. They provide me with a feeling of fulfillment by helping me see the growth in my own life. They motivate me to continue on the purposeful path that I have defined for myself.

Many people today are much more aware of their spirituality and what that means to them. People are longing for a fulfilling life – a life of purpose. This is the definition of success to many. There has been an awakening to the realization that fulfillment comes from within and not from outside sources. More people are meditating, which is another way to be spiritual. To feel connected to your inner being. Meditation is used by many successful people to help clarify their goals, their visions, and ultimately bring their dreams to fruition. Spiritual and success gurus such as Deepak Chopra and Mark Victor Hansen emphasize the value of meditation and prayer in one’s life. The Law of Attraction clearly states that “like energies attract”. This means that closer you are to your “true self, higher power, spirit” the easier it is to attract abundance because you are operating on the same wave length. Remember that the LOA works whether you want or believe it to. So be wary of what you think about, because that is what you are ultimately attracting to yourself. Another form of mediation is prayer. Robert Allen, a very successful real estate investor, claims that the first thing he does every morning is drop to his knees to give recognition and thanks to his God. He once partnered with Mark Victor Hansen in a variety of businesses, and they both stated that they would not hold a meeting or make a decision unless they prayed together on it first.

Still another example of spirituality and success intertwining is The “Secret” and “What the Bleep”. These are two movies about the Law of Attraction and Quantum Physics. In summary, “The Secret” focuses on manifestation. That is, what you focus on expands. The more you think about something, the more of it you will get in some form. For example, if you think about “war” you perpetuate the war. Rather, focus on what you DO want and not on what you DON’T. “What the Bleep” speaks to the realm of endless possibilities. The only thing that determines the level of success you receive is the limitations, labels and feelings that you impose upon yourself, about yourself. A good example of this is, when someone is standing behind you and bouncing a ball, the ball exists in an infinite amount of places until you put a reference to it. In other words, until you turn around and see it and declare it is in a certain location, it exists in ALL locations. Truly limitless possibilities until you put an imposed belief to it.

Some people might say that to lead a spiritual life one needs to forsake all their possessions, live a life of poverty like Mother Theresa, put their needs and wants behind all others. I disagree. Part of being spiritual to me is to enjoy and appreciate what life has provided me with, and to share what I have, whether a worldly possession or a skill or a newsletter article (wink, wink), with others. Spirituality to me is being in touch with myself, centered, and able to move past my fears to my successes.
